Step outside to the ‘she’ shed
Could your garden shed be that extra living space you crave?
Who wouldn’t love a space to escape right now? Somewhere not too far away and perhaps a place you could unleash your inner stylist on? Well with over 111,000 tags for #sheshed on Instagram, you wouldn’t be alone in pondering the potential of the garden shed.
For July’s Real Homes magazine slot, I was asked to explore the rise of the shed as a valuable extension to our living and workspaces. I started with a chat to stylist and author Selina Lake. Selina’s latest book is all about sheds. Called Shed Style (Ryland Peters & Small, £19.99), she revealed how the smallest garden can be home to a little retreat. But it seems we’re using our sheds for work as well as play, with artist Mary Price converting hers into a studio, mum-of-two and stylist Marie Nichols (@marienichols) escaping to her shepherd’s hut to plan shoots, and summerhouse owner Jo Rigg hiring hers out as a photographic location (#summerhouseat54) when it’s not in use for summer drinks parties.
What would you use your #sheshed for?
